Fattoria Varramista

Fattoria Varramista is a Tuscan company that has been producing red wines for a century. Its history is interwoven with noble Florentines and modern entrepreneurs. Grapes have been grown on this land for a hundred years. An exceptional wine based on Sangiovese grapes has been made here since the time when Varramista was owned by Count Capponi. But it was only in the 1990s that Giovanni Agnelli, began work to convert the vineyards and the production system. Sangiovese grapes have been cultivated in the district for many years and are now flanked by various international varieties.
After much research and testing on the field and in the winery, Syrah has become the key grape on the estate and is the essential ingredient of Varramista, the wine that Mr. Agnelli created for himself and for his friends. Three other wines are also made at Varramista, Frasca, Sterpato and Ottopioppi, comprised predominantly of Sangiovese.
Due to the limited size of the land area on the estate, the production process can be supervised in every detail. During harvest, the grapes are picked, carefully selected and sent to vats for fermentation. The refining process is done separately for each type of grape, in order to select only the wine from the finest barriques for bottling.
